Greetings the Parents and Community of Flint!
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as the principal of Schools of Choice. I am very excited about the opportunity to work with students in need of an alternative to traditional school. We know that Schools of Choice has been instrumental in the city of Flint in keeping students in school who are in need of credit recovery or additional support. We are continuing to provide that support at Flint Schools of Choice.
We offer three programs at Schools of Choice:
First, we offer a high school program for 10-12th grade students on trimesters, allowing the opportunity to gain additional credit. Students have the opportunity to earn seven and a half (7.5) credits during the three trimesters, allowing some credit recovery. Many students use this opportunity to make up credits and graduate from Schools of Choice. Students enrolled at Job Corps may also be eligible to take classes at Schools of Choice.
Second, we offer the ninth grade Transition Program. This program is designed for students who have not been successful in either middle school or the first year of high school. We offer another opportunity for students to make a change. The ninth grade program is fully staffed with core curriculum. We will have support staff in some classrooms and will have a behavioral specialist on staff to assist students in need of modification. The ninth grade students will take classes in two semesters, providing the opportunity to earn six (6) credits during the first year.
Third, we offer the Continuation Program for girls. This program has been with us for over thirty years and continues to provide a caring, supportive environment for pregnant students. Students are provided classes in nutrition, health and parenting skills in addition to their regular curriculum.
In addition, we offer a variety of extra curricular activities through the 21st Century after school programs. Students enrolled at Schools of Choice who are interested in playing sports may compete at their home schools.
Our office is always open to parents and we welcome your involvement. We know that students are more likely to be successful if we work together with families. Our goal for your student is high school completion. We will provide an environment that promotes learning for all students.
I look forward to working with the community at large in educating the students of the city of Flint and the surrounding area.
Sincerely,
Janice Davis |
